Meltem Acet, the daughter of academic parents, was born on September 24, 1974, in Ankara. After attending TED Ankara College, she graduated with honors from the Economics Department of Middle East Technical University. Later, Meltem Acet moved from TGRT to Habertürk, where she presented the Weekend Main News Bulletin and the hourly Headlines program during the daytime. She also served as the Weekend Main News Bulletin anchor at Show TV for a while. Currently, she presents the Main News Bulletin on EKOL TV.

Meltem Acet is fluent in English. In 2019, she divorced her husband of 14 years, Onat Acet, a businessman. After the divorce, she continued to use his surname.
